Featuring an impressive 14,000 square meters (in total) of exhibition space, this is one of Japan’s largest art venues. With no permanent collection, the center hosts temporary exhibitions annually, ranging from internationally acclaimed artists to emerging talents, providing visitors with constantly refreshing artistic experiences.

Explore Japan’s Cinematic Legacy

The National Film Archive of Japan preserves and celebrates the rich history of Japanese cinema. Preserving more than 87,000 films and over one million related materials, the archive offers exhibitions including “The History of Japanese Film” and film screenings focus on specific topics such as directors, countries or genres.

Encounter World-Famous Masterpieces

An UNESCO World Heritage site situated in Ueno Park, this museum showcases an exceptional collection of Western paintings and sculptures. Featuring works from Monet, Renoir and Rodin, the museum’s cornerstone is the celebrated Matsukata Collection, offering visitors a comprehensive view of Western artistic traditions.

A national museum of art specializing in modern and contemporary crafts and design

Located near Kanazawa’s Kenrokuen Garden, this museum specializes in modern and contemporary crafts and design from Japan and overseas. It houses over 4,000 works in numerous fields of crafts and design including ceramics, glass, lacquerware, woodwork, bamboo work, textiles, dolls, metalwork, industrial design, and graphic design. It also has the relocated studio of traditional Japanese lacquer artist Matsuda Gonroku, an art library with a collection of specialized books, and a museum shop featuring exclusive products. Another highlight is the buildings, former army facilities from the Meiji period (1868-1912).

Just steps away from Heian Jingu Shrine, this museum presents a thoughtfully curated collection focusing on Kyoto’s artistic heritage alongside contemporary Japanese expressions. Set in a historic city known for traditional crafts and cultural preservation, the museum creates a compelling dialogue between classical Japanese aesthetics and modern artistic innovations.
